Purell and Red Bull Boast Top Branded Integrations for 2011 Scripted TV

It’s not enough to simply embed your products and brands into entertainment. Brands must leverage and elevate their equity to best enhance opportunities and fully achieve their marketing objectives.

Looking back at 2011, Purell and Red Bull can both be considered stand out brands in this respect. According to Nielsen, “The Big Bang Theory” aired an episode in which Sheldon used Purell hand sanitizer after putting a live snake in a desk drawer. This placement commanded the season’s top recall index, at 271. For those of you unfamiliar with a recall score, this is the percentage of TV viewers who can recall within 24 hours the brand/product of a branded integration they were exposed to while viewing television dramas or sitcoms, with 100 equaling the average score of all integrations occurring in the genre. The runner-up integration in terms of recall was Red Bull’s integration on “Suburgatory”, in which Tessa deemed it the official drink of suburbia and characters were seen drinking it frequently. The placement scored a 214.
