Social Media Week 2013: Our (Slightly Belated!) Los Angeles Wrap-Up
Last week, we took part in “Social Media Week 2013”, which took place across five continents, 8 cities and hundreds of venues. With over 1000 events worldwide and more than 25,000 attendees participating across the globe, we wanted to take a moment to post about our experience at this year’s Los Angeles based events.
Social Media Week officially launched in 2009, however, this was our first year attending the event. We weren’t able to make all of the panels in person but thanks to the savvy folks behind this conference, we were able to watch all of them via Livestream at our own convenience (both live and after).
One of our favorite panels was the Master Class: Developing A Social Voice That Leads To Loyal Customers, which was done by YouTube star and Fullscreen’s resident social media guru, Austin Null. Austin talked a lot about creating brand ambassedors and talking to your auience in a voice that’s authentic for your brand. His best tip: Raise awareness for your own brand by putting your own spin on already trending content. Our advice? Just make sure there’s a clear/clever connection between your brand and what’s trending, otherwise this tactic may backfire.
Lastly, we came across a data visualization (pictured above) created by social media monitoring company, Brandwatch, which shows all of the social buzz surrounding last week’s events. Click HERE for a better look. Pretty cool, huh? We’re proud to have supported Los Angeles’ 2nd place ranking (we even contributed to the popularity of the #smwla hashtag with our tweets!) and look forward to next year’s event.
